The Albatross in my Bedroom

I bought this wonderful large pull at Anthropology a few years ago, I wasn't sure what I would do with it, who knew it would be inspiration piece for this project.

I will have to admit leaving my bedroom at the Depot House for this bedroom at our little Barn House, well let's just say it came with it's challenges. Yes, this is the back of the brick chimney from the fireplace in the living room, strange, I know. Some man designed this on the back of a napkin over a few beers no doubt, wait a minute I have drawn out many ideas on the back of a napkin, hopefully that is where the similarities stop.

I knew I had to paint it, to try and make it disappear, I love this color, Mary Carol's Sugar Cookie from her designer paint line at Nell Hill's, walls and brick all the same color, trim and ceiling Garrity Cream. I loved the final results but it still needs something, the opening looked strange, I do need storage, how about a floor to ceiling cabinet? I really like this idea, the perfect finishing touch!

I drew out the design and  called my friend Randy, after a few changes it was ready, my son Grant gave it a beautiful spray finish.  Ready for installation.

Bob and Randy make a great team.

Fitting perfectly!

Installing the doors!

My Glass knob was perfect, a trip back to Anthropology resulted in square matching pulls.

So what do you think?  Before

After!

I love my cozy eclectic bedroom...
My question to you... are your afraid to paint brick?
Don't be!

Blessings, Julie

So What's A Girl To DO

So what's a girl with serious chair love to do?
When I see a chair, an old chair, I first see what it is, then what it could be. This old chair I found street side as I went  to visit my Mom, as I drove by I only saw the legs, "kinda sexy", I thought.
The chair was covered with old boxes full of trash, I stopped, thought for a second, I couldn't really go back and go through someones trash....could I? The romantic little chair stirred me up enough to turn around and stop next to the pile of rubble.  I quickly looked from side to side to make sure no one was watching me, jumped out of my car, uncovered the chair and gasped....yes, that is what happens when you have chair love you gasp.

I quickly grabbed the chair, threw it in the back of my car and quickly drove off to my mother's house. I was so excited to show my Mom my new treasure, yes my Mom has chair love too, so does my daughter Jaclyn...I am convinced it is hereditary.

I love the legs, the curvy angles. I couldn't wait to get started on the makeover.

A quick whip with Restor-a Finish and the wood begins to glow.

Briwax is my secret weapon, it is simply wonderful on all wood finishes, it gives a perfect handed rubbed finish.

Whip on the Briwax, and buff.....perfect! Next a trip to the upholstery shop.

I bought this beautiful fabric on sale at Calico Corner, it has the popular burlap look with a more refined classic finish.

I love, love how it turned out....

I found this $10 foot stool at an estate sale and thought it would make the perfect companion piece... Do you have serious chair love? I would love to see your chair collection.
I will be showing my collection soon....Happy Chair Treasure Hunting....

Getting Ready For Summer

With spring and summer just around the corner, It's time to think about creating outdoor living space, places to entertain family and friends. Our life here at  Fire Lake Camp involves spending a lot of time outside, in the next few weeks I will show you what we are doing to create special little spots to kick back and relax. When the weather begins to warm up where will you go to relax.

Adirondack Chairs are a great look for any outdoor decor, I love the slanted seats and back support making these a very comfortable and stylish choice. Our Adirondack chairs needed a new and fresh look, we started with a quick sanding and sprayed with primer

I love the finish of Valspar spray paint it goes on smooth and easy.

I wanted this beach chairs to have a real camp feel so I painted FLC on the backs of the chairs. I could of stenciled the letters but I was going for the little campers painted it look.

I traced these letters on the back with a pen and filled in with paint.

I think it gives them a little personality

A quick spray with a clear coat and the chairs are ready for  a relaxing afternoon at the beach

The leaves are starting to come out the temps are in the 70's and the beach is almost ready for a little entertaining.

I love the little touches that make a space special and inviting, Bob and I love sitting here in the evenings, taking in all the sites and sounds of nature...aaahhhhh it's so relaxing after a day at work...
Are you creating an outdoor space? I would love to see it....enjoy your summer.

Blessing, Julie
